St George's (Weybridge)
What it's like
Founded in 1869 by the Josephite Community in Croydon, it moved in 1884 to its present site at Woburn Park in 100 acres of fine grounds. Many extensions and developments have taken place over the years, most recently facilities for technology and theatre studies. The sixth form has been mixed for some 30 years and girls were admitted to the first year in 1998. It has a family-oriented ethos and seeks to encourage a balanced Christian education in the Catholic tradition. All take religious studies GCSE at the end of the fourth year. It aims to encourage excellence and achievement across a broad spectrum of academic, sporting and extra-curricular activities; examination results are good. There is a range of sports and games and good facilities - including a tennis centre, a boat club, all-weather athletics track and two floodlit artificial sports pitches. International standards are achieved in hockey, rugby, netball, cricket, rowing, golf and tennis. A good range of extra-curricular activities includes commitment to local community services through the St Vincent de Paul Society. The Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme and Young Enterprise Scheme are well supported.
